Privacy Policy
Physics by LearnWithSherlock
Last updated: October 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Physics by LearnWithSherlock (the "App") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We built the App to need as little personal information as possible: no registration is required, there are no ads, and we never sell your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
a) Account identifiers.
When you first open the App, an anonymous account is created automatically and assigned a random user ID. This ID contains no personal information. If you choose to sign in, we receive basic profile information from that service, and Google Firebase Authentication stores it so you can sign in again:
Sign in with Apple: your email address (a private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email").
Sign in with Google: your name, email address, and a link to your profile photo.
Signing in is optional - the entire App works without it.
b) Learning progress.
Lessons and challenges you complete, scores, and your learning streak (the calendar days on which you completed activity). This is stored on your device and, so it can survive device loss and sync across devices, also in our cloud database under your user ID.
c) Purchase information.
If you subscribe to Premium, our payments partner RevenueCat receives purchase receipts from Apple and tells us whether your subscription is active. We never see or store your payment card details - payment is processed entirely by Apple.
d) Usage analytics.
We collect usage events (for example, app opens, which lessons and labs are started or completed, and lesson scores) and general device information (device model, iOS and app version, and an approximate region derived from your IP address) through Google Firebase Analytics. Analytics uses a random app-instance identifier and Apple's identifier for vendors. It is not associated with your account ID, name, or email. We use it to understand which lessons help people learn and to improve the App.
e) What we do NOT collect.
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, messages, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. We do not show ads and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information above to: (a) save and sync your learning progress; (b) provide and restore Premium access you purchased; (c) understand aggregate usage so we can improve lessons and fix problems; and (d) comply with legal obligations. We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
3. Service Providers
We use a small number of service providers to operate the App. They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments:
Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Analytics) - account identifiers, progress data, usage analytics. https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
RevenueCat - subscription status tied to your user ID. https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
Apple - payment processing, app distribution, and Sign in with Apple (only if you choose to sign in). https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
Google Sign-In - only if you choose to sign in with Google. https://policies.google.com/privacy
4. Data Storage and Security
Progress is stored locally on your device and mirrored to Google Firebase servers (cloud data is associated only with your user ID). Data is encrypted in transit. Access to cloud data is restricted so that each user account can only read and write its own records. No method of storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
5. Children's Privacy
The App is an educational app suitable for children. We designed it to work without providing any personal information: accounts are anonymous by default, and signing in with Apple or Google is optional and intended for adults or for minors with a parent or guardian's consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond the anonymous identifiers and progress data described above, we do not show ads, and we do not sell data. If you believe a child has provided personal information without parental consent, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your progress data for as long as your account exists so your learning history is available to you. You can:
Reset progress: Settings > Reset Progress erases your lesson completions, streaks, and scores on your device and in our cloud database. This works whether or not you have signed in.
Delete your account: once you have signed in with Apple or Google, Settings > Delete Account appears. It permanently deletes your sign-in account and the progress data stored in our cloud database, and takes effect immediately. To stop your other signed-in devices from restoring deleted data, we keep a minimal deletion record containing only your random account ID and the time of deletion.
If you never signed in: use Reset Progress, or contact us (Settings > Send Feedback includes the ID we need) and we will delete your data.
Purchase and subscription records held by Apple and RevenueCat, and analytics data processed by Google Firebase Analytics, are not removed by in-App deletion. They are kept under those providers' retention policies, or as required for billing, fraud prevention, and legal purposes. Contact us to request their deletion where the law allows.
If you delete the App without first using Reset Progress or Delete Account, anonymous progress saved under that installation's random ID may remain in our cloud database. It is not linked to your name or email.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Economic Area), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. The in-App deletion tools cover most requests instantly; for anything else, contact us and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. Because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, no "Do Not Sell or Share" opt-out is needed.
8. International Users
The App is operated from the United States and data is processed on servers that may be located in the United States. By using the App, you understand your information will be processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and may provide additional notice in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
